Vinnie - Left To Die

by Marcie Tepper

Vinnie

Vinnie was left at a shelter to die
His owners didn’t even bother to cry
How could he ever possibly know
He’d be alone when it was time to go

His head was shaking, was hard to walk
Had no one there for him to talk
To ask why this would be his fate
To go alone to Heaven’s Gate

He couldn’t stand up on his own
He’d just lay there and softly moan
He wished for someone to explain
Why he was left in so much pain

He’d always been there for his friend
How could she leave him in the end
Why couldn’t she look him in the eye
And tell him it’s okay to die

As the time grew closer he was giving in
Death for sure was going to win
He’d given up, had no more fight
He soon was going to see the light

Then out of nowhere came a voice
He must get up he had no choice
Someone came to help him now
To hold him close, to pet his brow

He didn’t know this angel yet
But knew that he would never forget
The loving hands, the tears she shed
While holding him on his death bed

She gave to him his favorite snack
And gently rubbed his hurting back
She told him it would be okay
That she would keep his pain at bay

He licked her tears and told her thanks
As he made his way to Heaven’s Banks
He promised to be waiting there
For his Angel who took time to care
