I knew this time was coming, but still can’t believe it’s true

I can’t imagine waking up, I won’t know what to do

I’ll probably stay up through the night, I need to take the time

To think of happy thoughts of you when you were in your prime

 

You made your passing peaceful, didn’t make me choose the day

Your journey up to Heaven was done in your own sweet way

You knew that I was struggling with the choosing of the day

When I would hold you close and words of kindness I would say

 

 

I’ve had you for so many years, I can’t imagine me alone          

I got you as a puppy and my goodness how you’ve grown

You saved me from depression, years ago it was your task

And then to keep you near me was the only thing you’d ask

 

I’ll keep you in my thoughts, within my heart you’ll always stay

I’ll thank the Lord for sending you each time I bow my head and pray

I think you knew that I’m now healed from pains deep in my soul

You’ve helped me through the years until you felt that I am whole

 

I’ll hang a great big picture of your face upon my wall

And think of times together, almost too many to recall

So please know that you’ll always be right here by my side

As long as you are in my thoughts, you really haven’t died.
