They researched of my breed
And asked professionals advice
After six weeks in a shelter
I wasn’t sure I’d make it out
But the workers love me so much
Said I was safe beyond a doubt
So off I go to my new home
In a fancy neighborhood
My family is so proud of me
They know I always will be good
I love all creatures big and small
They’re all welcome in my space
But it’s children I love most of all
I just lick them in the face
So why are people staring
As I walk on down the street
They point and gasp and whisper
As I try to go and greet
They say that I’m a pitt bull
And that I’m not welcome there
How could they know me inside
When all they see’s my shape and hair
Thank goodness for my family
I pray they keep me safe from harm
From all others who would hurt me
‘Cause they don’t know of my charm
I hope that they will keep me locked
Within their yard and home
Because strangers just might hurt me
If I’m left outside to roam
