I remember the moment
I laid eyes on you
Your swayback, your creaking
Oh my God, what’d I do?
I still took you home
With a gleam in my eye
And promised to keep you
Til the day that you die
The days were so many
So much more than I thought
I treasured the moments
Of this old horse I had bought
Then one day the time came
When you were in pain
All our efforts to save you
Were just made in vain
I held you and loved you
With tears in my eyes
The moment was truthful
And not filled with lies
Your journey here ended
On that bright sunny day
And you’re never forgotten
Though in peace you now lay
You’re running, you’re playing
All the things that you missed
We talked of them freely
That last moment we kissed
I will always remember
That look in your eye
When you said you were sorry
That it was your turn to die
You nuzzled me gently
You wiped off my tears
You said to remember
All our wonderful years
I know it’s not normal
To know what you think
But to me it’s as natural
As my eyes when they blink
You were such a good teacher
Of my boys you took care
In the lessons you taught them
You were always so fair
Some of your lessons
Landed them on their ass
But you did it so sneaky
With your own kind of class
Your trot was so bouncy
I thought I would die
But you ran like the wind
Through the woods we would fly
I pray that you are running now
Through glorious meadows green
You were the sweetest, kindest horse
That I have ever seen
