Mare Mare - What Are You Doing There

by Marcie Tepper

Mare Mare

Mare, Mare, quite contraire

NOW what are you doing there?

I don’t dare a good look-see

I know you’ll be the death of me

Why do you have to be so cute?

When your good manners are in dispute

You think with your heart and not your brain

I’ve never had one so hard to train

If you want to see what’s on the shelf

DO NOT jump up and help yourself

Just sit and ask, just look that way

If you grab and run, a price you’ll pay

Mary, Mary why do you squat?

You go outside when you have to pot

You do not pee upon my floor

Go, now hurry, outside that door

Do not look at me like that

As you pee on my front door matt

Hurry, out, I say to you

I feel my face is turning blue

You just came in you silly goose

Why didn’t you go when you were loose?

You held it in, I know you did

You are ten times worse than any kid

One more time, I swear to God

You’ll live outside upon the sod

Please give me strength to see this through

I know that this is new to you

Mare, oh Mare, be careful there

I swear I’m getting more gray hair

Sometimes I wonder IF you think

Don’t you dare give me that wink!

The cat food’s on a six foot post

You got up there and now you boast

It was put there for a reason

Mainly just to stop your teasin’

You think you’re smart, you’re way up high

Didn’t you realize dogs don’t fly?

Now you’re going to have to jump

You’ll probably land upon your rump

Let me help you, please I ask

This isn’t just a one dog task

I’ve got a ladder, don’t you see

Just this once will you please trust me

There you went, you couldn’t wait

I guess I was a little late

You lift your leg, it must have hurt

As your big fat body fell in the dirt

Off we go to see the vet

He will help, so don’t you fret

He’ll look at you and shake his head

And say you’re going to stay in bed

Fat chance that will happen here

Not when Mary’s in full gear

Not when life’s so full of fun

Of quiet time you will have none

Mary, please don’t lay on me

I’m not breathing, can’t you see

Please get up, you must get off

I need to breathe, I need to cough

In my bed, lay by my side

It’s a queen size bed, it’s very wide

I know you love me, yes you do

But all my limbs are turning blue

I can’t get up, you weigh a ton

I still can’t breathe, this isn’t fun!

Thank God you still fall for this trick

“Give me a kiss, give me a lick”

As you move to lick my face

I quickly move back to my place

I wish that you could learn to see

That on my bed lay NEXT to me
