Life On A Chain

You think you’re some great owner just because I am well fed

But living life out on a chain makes me wish I were dead

You saved me from a shelter and that makes you feel so great

But when you said you’d care for me why couldn’t you be straight?

You can’t believe how long the days , the nights are even worse

What did I ever do on earth to deserve this awful curse?

I sit here crying, begging for a morsel of your time

But you look at me as if I’ve now committed some great crime

I didn’t ask to be here, if I could I’d run away

But ‘til the laws are changed, upon this chain I’ll probably stay

I just can’t understand what makes you think I’m happy here

When all I’ve ever wanted is to have my humans near

I try to be so good, I do not dig or jump or bark

As I sit and patiently wait for you until it becomes dark

The nights they are the longest for there’s nothing to be seen

I cannot bear the thought of one more day of this routine
