Kicked puppy is now Boomer

Please let me be wrong, just this one time
Because if I'm not, it's such a hideous crime
The force of a kick, many bones it did break
He's just a fragile puppy for my goodness sake

Why would anyone react with such rage
Why couldn't he get a "time out" in his cage
Was it just impulse as you swung your huge leg
Or did you stand over and watch as he'd beg

I lie in my bed, hear the cracking of bones
His whimpers, his cries, his pitiful moans
Nothing on earth could deserve such a fate
Did you think it would kill him? Send him to Heaven's Gate?

I know how to find you, could to you do the same
At the shelter you left him, you gave them your name
But it won't help the others left here in my care
Life for God's Creatures so often's not fair

You made an excuse, said you just had no time
Did it even occur that you had committed a crime
I could hunt you and charge you, put your ass in jail
But you'd be out in a flash with some mere pittance bail.

So I'll just bite my tongue and take care of this boy
I'll hold him and love him and give him a toy
I'll teach him that never again will he hurt
Never again to be thrown in the dirt

I know I'm a Christian and it's not right to hate
You can't even imagine what I wish of your fate
But you're not worth my time you impotent ass
I must tell myself that I have much more class

The puppy you mangled will stay safe and warm
I'll hold him close through the next raging storm
For your family I worry, as you beat on them too
